Birthday/Costume Party

My six year old Shimmy is very tall. She went to a birthday/costume party today and after going through last years and early part of this years costumes and dress-up wear, I notice that she just outgrew everything. I couldn't believe it. Of course leave it to me to wait till last minute to figure out that she needs something quick to wear.
So, we went through the whole entire house and didn't find something she liked. Of course I sell tutu's and leotards and I just didn't think she would want to be a ballerina/fairy. DUH!
Of course she did. She loves girly things. I guess I figure since she's always wearing tutus for dress up that she would not want to wear it for a party. Wrong! She loved the idea of a fairy so I gathered some wings that I had from last year, a leotard and a tutu, some very small tights (size 6 which she outgrew as well) and some face paint that I purchased at Joannes Fabrics. I picked up her hair and added a scrunchy and this is the outcome. What do you think? Not bad huh? All within 20 minutes.

She has naturally curly hair & looks like a doll with her hair down.
All we did is add a bow to her and she had a complete baby model look!

After a couple of days of having Shimmy go to school with a headband, she turned around and told me that she wanted to have a different hair look. When I asked what she had in mind, she responded "I just want to look like a Shimmy Princess". She went into detail of what she wanted her hair to look like...A braid that goes from the top side of her head downwards and a smaller braid to the other side going down and tied in the back and the back hair down with curls. So this is her idea of a Shimmy Princess. The girl knows what she wants and she let me know if a curl was out of place. At the end she was eager to go to school to show her new do.

I hope you enjoy this post. Its a simple chignon with three strand braids. I had taken the how-to pictures but by accident I deleted the how-to pictures. My son was hanging from my neck while I was editing the pix and I well...trying to pry my son off me and doing work at the same time...things happen. Oh, yes. Bangs are way to long.

Try to focus on the hair do...not the stains on the carpet!

With the weather being in the triple digits lately, I try to keep my kidz as cool as possible. Shimmy in particular. She does not like her hair down in the summer.
Simple hair do. You simply part the hair from ear to ear then I prefer to part the top front section to the side. I make two 3 strand braids and then I sweep the hair to the side, tie it with a pony holder and add a korker bow.
To give it a slightly different look, you can curl the pony hair. I was running late this day so I did not get to curl the pony hair. The curls will give it a more done look!

Ole'---Shimmy looks as if she's posing to start Flamenco Dancing!

This Hair do reminds me of a Spanish Doll. Cute and festive!

I parted the hair from ear to ear. The top front portion I parted to the side. I then parted the bottom portion down the middle. I proceeded to do two low 3 strand braids. I then folded the braids downward and tied them with rubber bands. Added the clips and thats all!

Hope you all had a great 4th of July! Just wanted to share some of our 4th of July hair do pictures! I parted Shimmy's hair to the side and did a half one sided french braid (braid stands out more because instead of adding hair to both sides when french braiding I only add hair from one side). I then added the braid to a pony tail and added a bow.

Summer vacation is here! With all the family activities that I had planned for my kids, I haven't had much time to do my Shimmy's hair. My kidz go to school year round and I only have 1 week (this week) to pack in as many summer activities as I can. So far, we have gone to the beach, and had great picnics and have been going out for ice cream and bike rides around our home.
Shimmy's been sporting a lot of headbands lately & yes, I admit she's left the house once this week without brushing her hair! Yes, shame on me! But its either me or her when we rush! So to make it fair I didn't wear makeup. Yikes!
Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of either one of us! Maybe that's a good thing, right? Don't answer that! But I do have a couple of my friends and family sporting some of the headbands that I sell. They are great to wear when you don't have much time.

Well, It's been a busy week! Out of all days I had the hardest day today! I had a bad night sleep and I woke up very tired. Doing my daughter's hair was a challenge since I might have had only 2 hours of sleep. (Bad ear infection & hubby snoring). So, I did the best I could and I think my Shimmy looked adorable for her kinder promotion!

It turned out to be a great day. Shimmy thinks that school is over for good! HEHE! Little does she know that its only the beginning. My Shimmy has a hard time going to school half day for kinder. She's not going to be a happy camper when she starts 1st grade full time.

School for my kids start a week from Monday. Yay! 3 kids in school full time 1 more to go! My youngest missed the kinder cut off by 8 days! What a bummer! Well, he is my baby so I will do the best of it and give him more of my time!

I haven't been able to post for a while. I caught a cold. I'm finally feeling a lot better. Haven't been able to work much on any hair do's. Good thing is that I think I lost 1 or 2 lbs from feeling ill. YAY!
My daughters been going to school with a pony for the last couple of days. The good thing is that I have bow pony holders which makes her pony look sporty and yet adorable. I just added some to Shimmy Shimmy Bowtique. There's only a couple of them offered for now but soon you will be able to pick your own colors and style of pony holders.

Well, I hope you all had a great weekend. I had a busy one. I started reorganizing my office-storage-craftroom-studio-showroom-leave me alone when the door is close room! Yes, one room serves all those purposes and much much more! I like to call it....mmmm..."MY ROOM"!
It was kind of neat cleaning out MY ROOM! I found some product that I was suppose to take pictures of and add to my Shimmy Shimmy Bowtique website. Instead I put it aside and I well...forgot about them. Want to know what it is? Okay, I have a ltd amount of ballerina backpacks. Very cute! Instead of putting them for sale I think I will keep them and have them as giveaway prizes. What do you think? Add some Shimmy Shimmy product to it? Okay, This is a challenge for me! Trying to explain how to make two half braids. Please don't get discourage if you attempt the braids and don't get them the first time. It takes practice. I'm also working on video clips to demonstrate how to do braids. It should help out those who do not have the french braid or the three strand braid down. Coming to you very soon!
This is a semi easy hair do...of course for those of you that already know how to braid. I was making the braid while taking pictures! And I was chewing gum all at the same time!

Okay, First part the hair from front to back.

Take one side and section off about 1/2" to start off braid. My daughter has bangs so that's what you see clipped to the side.
Start of the braid like you would a three strand braid.

Okay, when you get ready to add hair, add only to the top strand. Do not add hair to the bottom strand.
Keep braiding the hair and only adding to the top strand.

I braided to the bottom and folded the braid up and tied it with a pony holder.
Repeat the top steps on the right side section.
I added these cute ruffle ribbon hair bows. That match her PJ's perfect. Yes, I did this demo before she went to bed. What a waste of a good hair do. Hey, who says a princess can't look good while sleeping. Have you heard of Sleeping Beauty!

On this bottom picture I removed the braid at the nape area down and placed a pony holder to have two pigtails. I think I like that look better.
Great! I'm done explaining! How did I do? Did I lose you at braid? Don't worry if you don't know how to braid. I will have a video tutorial coming to you very soon! If you do know how to braid and I lost you at any point, please comment and let me know. All feedback is welcomed!

Ah, I want to thank Avie Fritz for making my website look Wildly Cute! After many many months of going to different web designers and trying different looks for my website, I finally got a design that I truly love! Wild yet girly! Avie was able to combine a wild zebra print with cute girly stars! What talent! I didn't think it could be done but she did it! YAY! She captured the zebra print and stars (which I didn't think would go well with each other but its two patterns that I just had to have). We had a busy morning! My pictures might be a little blurry and don't mind the hairspray drops on Shimmy's hair. My son Zerin sprayed her while I was readjusting the camera and he really sprayed it on her. I could not wait for it to dry!
I will be adding some scrunchies to my bowtique. So, if you like them, I will have them up in about two weeks. Other than that - I believe Claires at the mall carry some.
After tugging and pulling and spraying and telling Shimmy to stand still. She gets a little moody.

Please don't mind the hairspray drops. To avoid this, spray about 1-2 feet away from hair & keep little brothers away from the hairspray bottle.
Okay, first you are going to outline the crown of the head by sectioning off about 1" of outer hair all the way around the head. Pin up the middle section of the hair to get it out of the way.
Section about every inch and tie with a pony. It should look something like the top and bottom picture.

Now take half of the hair from one section and half of the hair from the section next to it and tie it together with a clear rubberband. Do the same all the way around the hair sections.
You should get a pattern like this top picture. The bottom picture shows what it will look like at the bottom nape area.
After you have combined strands from each section, you just simply attach all the strands to make a pony with the remainder of the crown hair. Make it into a high pony to make sure the outer strands are pulled tightly so you can see the pattern better.
Once you have it into a high pony twist the pony and make it into a bun. Secure it with bobby pins and voilá! You have a patterned bun now you just add any Shimmy accessorie. You can add more security by adding more pins if need be.

Criss Cross Applesause Braids & Pigtails

This is one of Shimmy's favorite up-do's. She calls it "Criss Cross Applesauce".

First you are going to part the hair in four sections. Part the hair down the middle and then part it again from ear to ear.

Top sections will be braided with a regular 3 strand braid.

(For the more advanced, you can french braid the top two sections for a slightly different style).

Next you will take the left braid and cross it to the bottom right pigtail and wrap both braid and pigtail with your choice of pony holder. Same process for the right braid, cross it over to the bottom left pigtail and wrap both braid and pigtail with a pony holder. Choice of clips are limitless!

MY TWO GIRLS!

I had to post these pictures. The doll has a nicer up do than my Shimmy. Although I have some of the cutest hair bows and girly hair accessories at my daughters finger tips, I do allow my Shimmy to wear other brands and styles. She got this headband at Johns Incredible Pizza as a prize.

I love layered bows on a side pony tail. Its a great summer hair do . Nothing much to it. Just brush the hair to the side and place on a pony. Add your favorite clip.

Simple Braid with Pony

Sorry I don't have a front view. Shimmy was eating a tomato and did not want to take a frontal view.

Okay 1st part the hair in 3 sections.

Now Take the two front section strands and split them in two. and combine the two middle sections together. So you should have a total of 3 strands for a regular braid.

Once you have your braid. Pull the braid and the remaining hair into a pony tail.

Add your favorite clip and your done.

I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there that can do this style with their eyes close. But these are ideas for those of you that are beginners and have not done girly hair styles before and for those who want a different idea on how to style their little one's hair. This is a great way to start off your little girl in style. Its a simple way to get her hair in a pony and add a little pizzaz by adding a braid and a hair bow to it.

Julie, in response to your email, as to where I keep my Shimmy's hairbows...well, I did decorate a cork board with ribbon to match Shimmy's bedroom. I ended up bringing it downstairs to promote my hairbows and well, as of yet I have not returned it to her. She reminds me frequently so I'll be making one for her soon.
This cork board, I purchased at Target. Since, I own quite a bit of ribbon, I decided to use ribbon instead of fabric. This is the first cork board I decorate and I'm no expert but I just used Loctite Gerneral Purpose Adhesive Spray and I also reinforced with a hot glue gun. It was a little messy so I think I will end up using a different glue next time.

Well, in this blog I will attempt to help, by researching and finding new and different ways to add all those cute, colorful and sometimes difficult to use hair accessories. I will show you different hair styles from up do's, everyday wear and anything in between. I will give you some ideas on how to add boutique style bows, hair spins, headbands, tiaras, etc.
Please know that I'm not a professional hair stylist. I like to accessorize the two princess in my life and after trying different hair styles on them I decided to share some of my strategies and knowledge. If you see anywhere on my blog a hairstyle that you consider yours, it probably is. If I see a cute hairstyle out on the street, on hair magazines or on the net, I will go home and try to master it. If I do I will share my outcomes.
